JRPP for Department of Industry Building
Posted: December 6th 2018

ECCO President Nick King was one of five speakers to address the Western NSW Joint Regional Planning Panel at its hearing today in Orange. The JRPP was in town to consider the Development Application for the new Department of Industry head office to be built on the old hospital site. This is $55M development and an opportunity to build something special that is best practice in terms of energy use, water-sensitive urban design and visual amenity, and that plays a major role in activating this part of Orange. Unfortunately, it's hard to see how the proposed design fully meets any of those criteria. Nick and the other speakers made this point and made numerous constructive suggestions for improvement. However, the JRPP ultimately approved the design with a number of conditions.

Save Mt Canobolas SCA
Posted: September 5th 2018

ECCO Orange is working with the Orange Field Naturalist & Conservation Society and the Central West Environment Council on a campaign to protect the Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area (SCA) from the impact that more than 60 km of new mountain bike trails and infrastructure would have on this special area. The SCA is home to 9 endemic species and 3 threatened ecological communities and proposed changes to the Plan of Management could put them and other species at risk. The Orange Field Nats have developed a fantatstic website - Save Mt Canobolas SCA - to support the campaign and to provide details on how to make a submission on the draft Plan of Management - due by October 1st!".
