World Environment Day 2018 - Beat Plastic Pollution
Posted: June 4th 2018

Tomorrow is World Environment Day and the UN Secretary-General's message is simple but pwerful. "A healthy planet is essential for a prosperous and peaceful future. We all have a role to play in protecting our only home, but it can be difficult to know what to do or where to start. That’s why this World Environment Day has just one request: beat plastic pollution. Our world is swamped by harmful plastic waste. Every year, more than 8 million tonnes end up in the oceans. Microplastics in the seas now outnumber stars in our galaxy. From remote islands to the Artic, nowhere is untouched. If present trends continue, by 2050 our oceans will have more plastic than fish. On World Environment Day, the message is simple: reject single-use plastic. Refuse what you can’t re-use. Together, we can chart a path to a cleaner, greener world!"

Important Conferences in Central West
Posted: April 8th 2018

There are two important conferences in the Central West in the next month. Climate Smart Innovations (CSI) is being held in Cowra on April 18th and 19th. The conference will "highlight how the region has and continues to build an inventive future based on agricultural, environmental and conservation advancements". The second conference is the Conservation in Action 2018 event in Bathurst on May 16th and 17th. This conference will bring together industry leaders in the conservation field, from scientists to policy makers, program managers through to specialists in implementing works in the field. It will "pull together all disciplines of natural resource management to demonstrate how we're turning Research into Reality." ECCO encourages members and the general community to attend.
